New Rates for the PSTN services, with Effect from 01-05-99.

Plain Telephony Service

DoT is the main telecom operator of India.The telephony network expands throughout the vast expanses of the country.Plain telephony services are offered by DoT.A subscriber can opt for STD or ISD facilities.The telephony services have been extended to the remotest part of the country by the installation of VPTs.With the automation of the network ,it has become possible to offer a number of phone plus services on to a normal telephone connection.

Phone Plus Services

Apart from dynamic STD/ISD control, the following phone plus services are also being offered.

Call Waiting
This facility lets you receive incoming calls even when your telephone is busy.You will get a short duration pip-pip tone when you are busy talking , indicating that another call is waiting for you , provided you have activated this facility.You can talk to any one of the callers keeping the other waiting.Complete secrecy of communication between the two callers is maintained.
Abbreviated Dialing
You may be calling a few people very frequently.You may want to dial less number of digits to reach those people.It is possible to programme these numbers as abbreviated codes of 1 or 2 digits.A maximum of 20 numbers can be programmed for abbreviated dialling.
Hot Line
You may want to be connected directly to a pre-determined number as soon as you lift the hand set even without dialling.At the same time you may want to have the flexibility to dial any other number of your choice.It is possible to have this facility in the digital exchanges by the delayed hotline feature.The number of your choice can be programmed by the exchange staff at your request.After doing so if you lift the telephone and do not dial within 5 seconds , you will be automatically connected to the programmed number.However if you start dialling with in 5 seconds , you can make an outgoing call as usual.
Call Transfer (Call Forward)
Useful for very mobile personswho may not want to miss incoming calls. Calls can be forwarded to another telephone number within the same local area.
Automatic Wake-Up/Remider Call Service
Customers of telephone service can avail the facility of automatic wake-up/reminder call service provided from all the digital exchanges.There is no need to depend upon the operator on 173 any more.
